The Consortium of Development Communication Educators and Practitioners (CDCEPP), which is now the Association of Development Communication Educators and Practitioners (ADCEP) Philippines Inc., was formally launched during its first national conference on December 8, 2011 at the College of Development Communication, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). With the strong belief that communication facilitates social change, 27 educators and practitioners set in motion the professional organization which would advance the ideals of development communication (DevCom) as a field of study and practice.

2011 National Conference: The Launching and the Beginning at Los Baños

The conference’s keynote message, entitled “Trends and Challenges in Devcom: the Global Picture,” was delivered by Dr. Serlie B. Jamias, CDCEPP’s interim president. Scientific papers were also presented by six founding and charter members representing the following five universities offering DevCom programs: Batangas State University; Isabela State University; Mariano Marcos State University; UPLB; and West Visayas State University. The presenters discussed the history, academic programs, and challenges of DevCom in their respective HEIs.

A day prior to the one-day conference, the founding and charter members of CDCEPP elected the interim officers who would initially lead the organization for one year. They also finalized and signed the CDCEPP constitution.
